Description

  1. spill was created to follow the turmoil in the Liberal Party in Australia over a vote on an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). When the Liberal Party agreed to a series of amendments to the government of the day (Labor) ETS Bill, more radical elements in the conservative party decided to challenge for the leadership of the Liberal Party to ensure the legislation did not pass. #spill became the hashtag to comment on the changing situation in the party as to who was or was not running and what policy they were or were not putting forward.
  1. It was again revived in June 2010, when on 23 June it was announced that factional leaders within the Australian Labor Party were seeking to end the leadership of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and replace him with Deputy Leader Julia Gillard.
  1. The tag is also commonly used to spill/reveal secrets.
  1. Some tweets from norwegian members on Twitter may be seen occasionally with this tag. This is because the word "spill" in norwegian can be translated into "games" (English). The word is used most commonly by norwegian members when tweeting something related to a computer game/video game, but is rarely used as a hashtag.
