WTH:TwitterBot
As a measure of convenience, we've also built some automation into our Twitter account (@wthashtag). The main idea is that users can interact with What the Hashtag?! and the content we index all via Twitter.
Getting Definitions on Twitter
The first way to interact on Twitter is to send the bot a hashtag via direct message and it'll return a short description and a link to the page here. Here are the steps for looking up definitions with the bot:
Make sure you're following @wthashtag. We'll follow you back so two-way communication will work
Send a direct message to @wthashtag where the contents are only the hashtag: #myhash
When you send this message, we'll look up #myhash and send you a message in return. Possible return values include:
- Hashtag found, description available - #myhash: A hashtag centered around people talking about me ... (link to article)
- Hashtag found, no description available - #myhash: No description available, but YOU can add one ... (link to article)
- No hashtag match - #myhash was not found, but YOU can add it (link to article)
- Illegal command - Unrecognized command. To inquire about a hashtag, simply send me a hashtag including the # symbol. For all other communication, @reply me.
Submitting Definitions on Twitter
To submit a definition on Twitter, send @wthashtag an @reply that looks like this:
@wthashtag def #hashcon For people attending the hashtag conference.
The def keyword tells us you want to define something, followed by the hashtag you want to define and then finally the definition you want to submit.
Upon posting your @reply tweet, we will take your definition and insert it into the wiki, as such:
Contact us for any Questions
